BROKEN BOARDS

PREMIERE PRO, AFTER EFFECTS, STORYTELLING, AND ILLUSTRATION

In the title sequence created it highlights a sitcom/comedy that takes you into the elementary school classroom and the dynamic between the school board and district teachers. This sequence brings you back into the classroom based on stylistic choices, but also gives you a glimpse into Lakewood elementary school where they are faced with many difficulties. With comedic relief “Broken Boards” touches on issues we see in today’s current school system as well as the strength in a community who cares deeply about education.

Inspired by “Abbott Elementary” “Broken Boards” is about Lakewood Elementary that’s located in a small town in Kansas. The school is ran by Ms. Anderson who has a strong connection to the place as she went here too when she was a kid. With her witnessing this place as a wide eyed kid she saw the school for how amazing it was. Although now she’s on the other side. The one that works with the school board and Tina on the Parent Teacher Association (god help her). Granted the school has their issues with broken chalk boards, but below the surface its a broken school system trying to keep up. With getting input from not only the parents but the whole branch of education this show covers issues of power struggles, the love for learning, problems facing lack of funding, outdated systems, and the strength in the Lakewood community.

With such heavy subjects, this show offers a touch of comedy showing the lighthearted nature of the school and the people like Ms. Anderson and Mr. Woods, the students favorite teacher, that keep it running no matter how hard it is. “Broken Boards” takes you back into your memory of being in elementary school, but now rather than being a student you get a look into the school board and the issues they face while having to also provide an educational system for a bunch of rowdy kids.

PROCESS: MOODBOARD

In this title sequence I really want to emphasize the look of an elementary school classroom with having fun colors, typography, and shapes. When doing this it will make the viewer almost nostalgic to their memories in elementary school. With this stylistic look I also want to include moments where you notice that things are a little broken or still being figured out as the school runs into many issues. This could be bent or broken pieces in the title sequence or even the way that things move by sliding or even falling. In addition to this much of the segments within the title sequence will be illustrative with textures here and there.
